Announcing:

                          Sam & Jo's Dapper Dogs!

We're very pleased to announce the creation of "Sam & Jo's Dapper Dogs," a fund to help with grooming expenses so that our foster dogs will look (and smell) their best in preparation for finding new homes.  This fund is the brainchild of a dear friend and firm supporter who recognizes that a clean and well-groomed dog has a better chance of finding a home, and it is named in honor of her beloved companions Sam (canine, Flora's class of 2001) and Joanne (human, dog-lover, long-time Flora supporter).   Freddie, a Flora alumnus, demonstrates the power of a good haircut, below.

New and not yet ready for adoption:

Bunny, a 1.5-lb. toy poodle puppy, came to us because her hare lip will require extensive (expensive) surgery without a certainty of success.  At 9 weeks old she is so small (about the size of a soup can) that she doesn't even seem real, and she has some growing to do before any surgery can be attempted, but she's not in any discomfort and we have complete faith in our brilliant vets--if anyone can help Bunny, they can.

The Boxcar Puppies - shepherd mix puppies born late February, 2008

We're now accepting adoption applications for three male shepherd mix puppies born in an abandoned car in late February.   Despite their rocky beginnings, these puppies are healthy, happy and looking forward to starting their new lives in loving homes.  The puppies are about 12 weeks old and weigh 12 lbs. as of May 14th, they have had their first vaccinations and been de-wormed, and they are neutered.  One of the puppies had a broken tail that had to be snipped off at the end, another has blue mixed in with his brown eyes.  We will be giving strong preference to homes with previous dog experience and verifiable vet references.  Suggested donation:  $300

FIVE STANDARD POODLES!

We've just taken in a total of five gorgeous adult standard poodles from two sources, aged two to five. All are healthy, nice and lovely to look at: a black male; black female; cream male; white female and parti (cream/tan) female. These dogs did not have the advantages of a lot of attention in their previous homes, and will benefit from a poodle-savvy home with the time and inclination to spend some time on the basics, like polite leash-walking. All are fully vetted, of course.  Suggested donation: $350

Sassy - 9-year-old miniature poodle

Diets DO work!  Sassy's previous home allowed her to become so obese that she couldn't walk (a first for us), but 8 months later, she's a new gal.  Sassy not only walks, she RUNS, hops and her tail wags a mile a minute.  Sassy has been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm-tested and she is ready to start a new life in a home of her own.  Sassy has a sweet personality, she is completely housebroken, and she has a lot of years ahead of her in which to enjoy her new mobility.

Mimsy - 10-year-old toy poodle

Mimsy is a precious, 7-lb., 10-year-old apricot toy poodle who came to us in need of surgery to remove a badly-injured eye.  Mimsy has recovered from her surgery and is ready to start a new life in a home of her own.  She has a gentle, loving personality, she is housebroken and she has been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm-tested, freshly-groomed and has had a dental cleaning.

Maria - 10-month-old Chihuahua puppy

Maria is to die for--a 10-month-old, tan Chihuahua puppy with a genuinely sweet and happy disposition.  Maria weighs 6.5 lbs., she is short-haired, and her beautiful cream-and-tan coat has a lovely soft texture.  She loves other dogs (she's seen here with her friend Sweeney), she loves people and she LOVES to cuddle.   Because of her tiny size we won't be matching her with any big dogs or small children, but her disposition couldn't be any nicer.  Maria has been spayed and fully vetted and she is beautifully crate-trained.  Suggested donation:  $400

Lizzie - 1-year-old Australian Terrier

Lizzie is as cute as they come.  She's a 1-year-old Australian Terrier with a sunny personality and all the confidence and playfulness of her terrier heritage.  She's tiny--just about 10 lbs.--but she plays hard and loves to mix it up with her best friends and fellow terriers, Sweeney, a Jack Russell and Jason, a 25-lb. American Hairless who both love her energy level (most dogs find her a bit overwhelming).  Lizzie is loving, adorable and perfectly crate-trained, and she has been spayed, vaccinated and heartworm tested.  This little girl is just plain precious.  Suggested donation:  $350

Sweeney - 1-year-old Jack Russell Terrier

Sweeney is a smooth-coated, tri-color, 1-year-old Jack Russell Terrier with a fabulous, sweet disposition.  He is absolutely gorgeous, with an exceptionally soft coat, and he is long-legged, sleek and athletic, with all the energy you would expect a JRT to have.   At just 12 lbs., he's quite portable, and enjoys any opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.   All of his vet work is done, he's housebroken and he is ready to go-go-go!   Suggested donation:  $300

Jason - purebred American Hairless Terrier (coated)

Jason is just about the perfect dog--he has a fabulous disposition, he's playful, loving, smart, gets along beautifully with other dogs, doesn't mind cats, he's a compact 24 lbs. and he has a short, low-maintenance coat.  He's two years old, he's healthy, housebroken and happy, and he has the cachet of  being a purebred American Hairless Terrier, which is a rare breed, but he looks like he's "just folks."   We just can't say enough good things about this wonderful boy.  Suggested donation:  $300

Private Adoption
Barney, a 2-year-old, 60-lb., brindle mixed-breed dog, is looking for a dog-savvy new home with adults only.  He got himself into a jam when the 9-year-old in his current household tried to force him to do something he didn't want to do, and he nipped (the pulling of ears may have been involved), and his family wants to find him a new home.  Barney is a devoted companion to his family, but wary of strangers until properly introduced; he is neutered, up to date with his shots, totally house-trained and knows basic obedience commands.   If you are able to offer this boy a second chance, please complete our online application and your information will be forwarded to his current family, who will be handling his adoption.

Nickie has been adopted!!!!  Nickie, and all of us at Flora's Pet Project, would like to thank Cindy N., who took Nickie for regular outings while she lived at the vet hospital, and made her feel special and truly loved.   Nickie now has a permanent home with Susan T., a member of the vet staff and a cherished friend with a special place in her heart, and home, for the pets who need her the most.
