Sheldon - pit bull puppy born October
2009 Sheldon is an absolutely darling, mostly-white pit bull puppy born in October 2009. Sheldon came to us with a broken elbow and after being put back together by our wonderful orthopedic specialist, Dr. Eric Galster, he is as good as new and ready for a new home. Sheldon plays, runs and wrestles with the other dogs like any other puppy, and is a very, very sweet boy who will make a wonderful, strikingly-handsome companion. Sheldon is looking forward to a lifetime of being loved and kept safe and happy in a new home, and he has been neutered and vaccinated and is ready to go-go-go.

Pandora - 1
1/2-year-old English Bulldog-Beagle mix Pandora is a product of the "designer dog," i.e., expensive mixed breed, craze that makes us...crazy...but we can't deny that she is, in fact, adorable. Pandora is half-English Bulldog and half- beagle (a "bugle?"), born in October '08 and she is looking for a new home because her former household no longer had time for her. Pandora is 42 lbs., with the barrel-shaped body, nubby tail and strength of an English Bulldog and the soulful eyes, goofy personality and long, velvety ears and muzzle of a beagle. Pandora has to catch up on some basic obedience training that she missed in her previous home (they had a fenced yard and never bothered to leash-train her, among other things), but she is anxious to please and a very quick learner. All vet work has been done, of course.

Lucy -
8-year-old blind Silky Terrier Lucy is an absolutely darling 8-year-old, 10-lb. Silky Terrier who was given up by her family when her diagnosis of diabetes coincided with some difficult times for the household. Lucy is on a prescription diet and requires just a whisper of insulin twice a day, and although diabetes-related cataracts have now taken her sight away, they haven't robbed her of her loving, confident and outgoing disposition. Lucy is spayed and all of her vet work is up to date. The expense and demands of maintaining Lucy's health are minimal, but the rewards of living with this lovely little dog will be immeasurable.

Walter Cronkite
- 5-year-old pit bull Walter is a very, very sweet white pit bull, about 5 years old, whose entire body is covered with scars, most likely from use as a bait dog in a fight ring, but whose good spirits and gentle nature are unscathed. Walter was heartworm-positive when we got him, but has been successfully treated, and he has been neutered and vaccinated. Walter is perfectly housetrained and is so grateful for even the smallest kindness--a safe haven and regular meals are more than he ever had before. This boy is happy just to be alive, and he will make you so very glad you reached out to him.

| Sam & Jo's Dapper Dogs: The well-groomed dogs you see on this page have been buffed and puffed with the help of "Sam & Jo's Dapper Dogs," a fund to help with grooming expenses so that our foster dogs will look (and smell) their best in preparation for finding new homes. This fund is the brainchild of a dear friend and firm supporter who recognizes that a clean and well-groomed dog has a better chance of finding a home, and it is named in honor of her beloved companion Sam (canine, Flora's class of 2001) and in memory of Joanne (human, dog-lover, dear friend, long-time Flora supporter). | |||
